Check Boxes

I’ve been stumbling on a lot of thoughts lately. A few days ago, I stumbled on the below quote. Ever since then, I’ve been rereading it:

And therein lies the best career advice I could possibly dispense: just DO things. Chase after the things that interest you and make you happy. Stop acting like you have a set path, because you don’t. No one does. You shouldn’t be trying to check off the boxes of life; they aren’t real and they were created by other people, not you. There is no explicit path I’m following, and I’m not walking in anyone else’s footsteps. I’m making it up as I go.

I’m not a fan of check boxes or ten year plans or following paths. What I am a fan of is making it up as I go along. Oh yes, sometimes it’s tough. Sometimes, it really sucks not knowing or to feel lost or floating. But, on the other hand, it really helps you to focus on the moment. To focus on today and being right here, right now. It’s about being “here” and not worrying or wanting to be “there.”

Am I shunning goals, hopes and dreams? Absolutely not! But, I do think it’s okay to stray from the path, to not worry about making check marks in imaginary boxes and to start living in the moment.
