#1 Pet Peeve

I wrote about pet peeves here and here, but both times I forgot my #1 Pet Peeve. Yes, I am flabbergasted as well. So what is my biggest pet peeve you ask? Well, drum roll please…

NOT WALKING THE WALK aka breaking promises.

Don’t:

  • – say you’re going to send an email in 30 minutes if you know you’ll get side tracked
  • – promise to follow up when you know you won’t
  • – say, “I got it next time” when you really won’t
  • – say, “I’ll call you” when you detest picking up the phone and never make outgoing calls
  • – say, “If you do x, I’ll do y.” No, you won’t. Why bother saying you will?
  • – say, “I promise not to be late.” You’re always late. Why not accept it and let everyone budget thier time accordingly?

If you can’t walk the walk, don’t talk the talk. It drives me INSANE and completely pisses me off. And yes, 25 years later, I still hold a grudge with my dad over his promise to get me a real pony. No, he never actually got me one. Yes, I still bring it up anytime he makes a so-called promise.
